At the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry, scientists and clinicians research the causes of psychiatric disorders. In our research clinic, we focus on the diagnosis, treatment, and research of psychiatric disorders, with a particular emphasis on treatment-resistant depression. The clinic is located in Schwabing, between Luitpold Park and the English Garden. It consists of three open and one protected psychiatric ward, as well as the 60+ ward, with a total of 120 beds for 2,000 patients per year. We also have three day clinics with 54 partial inpatient places and various specialized outpatient clinics.

Our protected ward offers special protection for patients who are acutely at risk or who desire intensive temporary protection. The treatment focus is on individual intensive therapy for particularly severe psychiatric disorders, as well as the treatment of psychiatric emergencies. These include crisis situations such as acute suicidality or acute psychoses.
