Duties:


This position serves as the administrative coordinator, responsible for the facilitation and coordination of programs, finances, operation, and administrative support for two inter-collegiate departments of the United States Coast Guard Academy, Cadet Vocal Music and Cadet Instrumental Music.

Typical work assignments include:

  • Reading and analyzing incoming memos, submissions, and reports in order to determine their significance and plan their distribution among the three Directors.
  • Providing administrative support for CGA Cadet Vocal Programs and CGA Regimental Band, Windjammers Drum and Bugle Corps, CGA Cadet Jazz Ensemble, Pep Band, and Concert Band members.
  • Providing support for all graduation activities, formal events, and programs, including maintaining databases and submitting procurement requests in ensure timely payment of bills.
  • Coordinating duties for cleaning vendors, food service, and facilities engineering to ensure appropriate event support.
  • Assisting Cadet Division staff, Class Councils and Class Advisors with administratively executing class
- and corps-wide official events, including, but not limited to, formals and ceremonies.

  • Managing all aspects of event publicity, including media advertisements, direct mailing, playbill design, and dinner theater coordination.
  • Making transportation and lodging arrangements for performance trips.

Qualifications:


Applicants for the GS-06 must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level in the federal service.

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.


Examples of specialized experience include experience as an office manager managing the administrative and communication procedures and processes to ensure the efficient operation of an office; experience performing office support services including mail, phone, filing, office supplies, calendar, and coordination of work.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
