About the Role:


Westover School is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Director of the Women in Science & Engineering (WISE) Program, beginning on August 15, 2024.

The Director of WISE reports to the Associate Head of School and oversees all aspects of the WISE curriculum at Westover and interfaces closely with the Math and Science Departments.


The Director of WISE will lead a pivotal growth phase for one of Westover's signature programs, championing STEM initiatives at Westover.

The scope of work includes spearheading program development, implementation, and evaluation in addition to cultivating strategic partnerships with partner organizations, alumni, and other potential stakeholders.

As a key member of the academic council, the Director of WISE collaborates with department heads and faculty to ensure the WISE curriculum aligns with our educational vision and values.


Qualifications:

Possess a B.A./B.S. or an advanced degree in science, math, computer science, engineering or technology.


Experience in teaching in the field of science, math, engineering and/or technology with a track record as an outstanding teacher and trusted colleague.

Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and constituents, and adapt to changes of circumstance.

Demonstrate an enthusiastic, compassionate, and student-focused methodology.

Demonstrate leadership, engagement in, and a commitment to integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout their courses.

Possess excellent writing, organizational, planning, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrate dedication to centering student-driven learning while balancing authentic engagement, rigor, and social-emotional wellness.

Track record of running programs successfully and managing members of a team


Responsibilities:


Provide oversight and support to all WISE courses, including Advanced Placement level classes, engineering electives, and courses as a part of the Westover Institute.

Teach a course load equivalent to 4-5 sections.

Innovate and adjust the program to meet the ever-changing needs of the students and the School.

Champion our commitment to diverse perspectives in the classroom & culturally responsive pedagogy across the curriculum.

Provide support and yearly reviews of members of the department.

Advocate for departmental collaboration and cohesion.

Liaise with Admission, Advancement, and Communications offices as necessary to market the program.

Build and maintain relationships with external organizations.

Track progress of current students in the program and network with Alumnae of the program.

Managing the budget for the department.

Participate in the life of the School in order to support and serve the student body.

Respond in a timely fashion with energy and empathy to the needs of students and families.

Serve as an advisor to a group of students.

Ability to coach is desirable, but not required.
