A Brief Overview

The Director of Clinical Services and Advanced Practice Providers, Solid Organ Transplant is accountable for the nursing and clinical services provided by SHC.

This includes responsibility for planning, organizing, leading, and directing the nursing care in clinics and the support services providing the infrastructure for the delivery of quality, compassionate and cost-effective patient care.

The Director will establish and maintain a care delivery model designed to meet the clinical and service needs of clients and implement standards and policies which ensure safe and efficient practices.

The Director will collaborate with quality management and external regulatory and accrediting entities to ensure all mandated services and standards are met and exceeded.


Furthermore, The Director provides direction and supervision for all Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) including Nurse Practitioners (NP), Physician Assistants (PA), and Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) in designated in-patient and out-patient services lines in collaboration with the Center for Advanced Practice.

Leads and supports advanced practice to ensure quality and efficient patient care and ensuring all clinical standards are met.

Assists with identifying, measuring, and evaluating clinical and departmental outcomes and provides direction and oversight of hiring, onboarding, terminating and managing disciplinary action within the Service Line.

The Director will be responsible for staffing allocation, ensuring independent practice where appropriate and the presence of consistent and fair coverage across the Service Line.

What you will do

  • Regularly measures staff/APP performance against established criteriabased performance standards; utilizes evaluations as an objective management tool for counseling staff members to higher levels of performance to facilitate their professional development and maximize their contribution towards established institutional goals. Always takes immediate action in serious disciplinary situations; documents actions taken and the rationale for the decision.
  • Coordinates and integrates independent APP practice and monitors quality of care within and among the sections to achieve desired goals and outcomes.
  • Oversees the quality of clinical practices and procedures for Staff APPs, Lead APPs, and Managers of Advanced Practice in collaboration with medical leadership.
  • Collaborates with faculty, service line VP, transplant program managers, clinic managers, nursing staff and support services to determine staffing standards and ensure the appropriate number of APP staff; assessing scheduling practices based on service requirements, establishing productivity guidelines, and monitoring implementation of these guidelines and scheduling practices.
  • Develops and implements policies that guide and support the provision of services; ensures that policies and procedures are compatible with the function and goals of SHC, and which meet the external regulatory and statutory requirements.
  • Effectively assists in providing leadership, direction, and the administration of operations to ensure compliance with established institutional objectives and the delivery of optimal quality health care services.
  • Initiates and maintains an organizational structure for the APPs and creates a culture that facilitates collaboration and participation within the service line.
  • Provides mentorship and assists front line staff and APPs as well as managers and leads to accomplish inpatient and outpatient patient care mission and goals.
  • Effectively provides direction and policy interpretation to managers in managing their respective areas of responsibility; offers advice in handling special human resources matters and administrative concerns.
  • Ensures that departments/areas comply with or exceed all regulatory requirements including, but not limited to, JCAHO, CAP, OSHA, FDA.
  • Guides the preparation of Hospital/departmental budgets and allocation of funds based upon reviews of department estimates/recommendations, familiarity with operating procedures and cost/revenue projections.
  • Reviews all department requests for capital expense items and submits same, with recommendations, to the Vice President.
  • Integrates department's services with the hospital's primary functions by supporting organizational mission, priorities, and goals, and by delivering optimal quality health care services.
