Duties:


As a USRO, you will:
- operate a centralized, multiple zone air conditioning plant that serves a complex of buildings.
- responsible for the start-up, shut-down and regulation of the chiller plant and its water circulation pumps, air handlers, and other support equipment from central switches or from decentralized switches in fan or equipment rooms to meet load requirements.
- responsible for taking and recording equipment operational readings for the various HVAC system equipment and heat exchangers that are in operation.
- adjust valves, resets temperature controls and operates water spray pumps to correct environmental conditions.
- perform equipment maintenance such as changing filters in air handlers, cleaning water strainers, replacing broken or worn drive belts on motors, aligning drive components such as belts and couplings, lubricating the various compressors, fans, shafts and steam glands of pumps, and moving parts of other operating and standby equipment.
- perform repairs such as replacing manual, electric and pneumatic operated valves, drive coupling grommets and springs, brazing copper tubing, repair or replace packing glands, air washer pumps and water float assemblies, chilled and hot water coils, steam coils, and replacing electric motors up to 50 horse power (Hp).
- assists USRO journeyman mechanics with the maintenance; repair; inspection; and testing of plumbing, steam, and hot water heating systems.
- assists an AC journeyman mechanic with servicing mechanical system components, which include compressors, condensers, expansion valves, service valves, environmental controllers, pumps, and drive assemblies.

Qualifications:


SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT:

Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire.

Those applicants who appear to possess at least the mínimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated.

  • Element 75A Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc., (includes Blueprint Reading)
  • Element 81 Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment
  • Element 82A Knowledge of Materials
  • Element 96 Ability to Troubleshoot Mechanical/HVAC Systems Problems

Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include:

volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
