We are presently seeking a disciplined and highly self-motivated
_Proteomics Specialist _to assist in the group as a Proteomics Specialist to join the Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics Facility at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • The individual should have a sophisticated understanding of techniques and a solid foundation in the underlying science, gained from prior research experience.
  • Operate and maintain highly technical mass spectrometers and twodimensional chromatographic or electrophoresis equipment.
  • Identify, advise or assist investigators with developing strategies for sample preparation for the use of gel electrophoresis, liquid chromatography, capillary electrophoresis and mass spectrometry to identify, quantify and characterize proteins and their modifications.
  • Expand or develop new skills, as needed, based on information from literature, in collaboration with other laboratories or vendors, or by interacting with colleagues at meetings or professional presentations.
  • Teach staff, students or fellows advanced techniques in protein analysis by mass spectrometry used in the center through informal discussions or formal workshops offered by the facility.
  • The position also implies daily supervision of all aspects of the center functioning.
  • Responsible for maintaining highend mass spectrometers, developing and following SOPs, developing and maintaining collaborative connections with the investigators.

Instrumentation Handled

  • Mass Spectrometers (Orbitraps : Explorises, Lumos ETD, Q-Exactive Plus, and Voyager DE-STR MALDI-TOF)
  • Liquid chromatography (nanoflow, capillary flow, affinity, reverse phase, cationic exchange)
  • Capillary Electrophoresis.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related experience is required.
  • Two years experience with protein/peptide separation and analysis by liquid chromatography mass spectrometry.

Preferred Qualifications

Special Knowledge, Skill & Abilities:


  • Expertise in quantitative proteomics using label free (PRM, DIA) or labeling techniques (iTRAQ, TMT, or SILAC ).
  • Must have good communication skills, be able to work independently, under mínimal supervision with strong decisionmaking skills and commonsense judgment.

$64,000 - $112,200 Annually ($95,000 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
