We are a technical and scientific federal agency within the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport (BMDV).

Our main task is to advise the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration (WSV) on all traffic-related water engineering issues, particularly the evaluation of traffic engineering facilities and infrastructure of waterways.


With our work, we significantly contribute to ensuring that the waterways in Germany meet the growing traffic, technical, and ecological requirements.
