Position Summary
The Laboratory Operations Specialist is responsible for supporting all CMI laboratory departments with all clerical and ancillary duties in keeping all equipment ready to run for patient output.
While maintaining job functions, the Laboratory Operations Specialist is to progress in their learning of the regulations (CLIA, CAP and NYS) which the laboratory functions by.
Laboratory Operations Specialists support Specimen Processing Clerks, Histology Technicians, Histology Technologists, Pathology Assistants, Pathologists and Molecular Technicians. This position works under the direction of the Supervisor and follows standard laboratory procedures and policies.Responsibilities:
- Handles, prepares, and maintains ovens, printers, stainers and other equipment; conducts dehydrating and cover slips slides utilizing manual or automatic systems.
- Responsible for filing, tracking, retrieval, and accurate record keeping. Maintains diagnostic viability of all specimens and ensures correct patient labeling of all materials.
- Routinely checks and verifies that surgical case numbers match blocks and slides; prints labels as appropriate.
- Logs appropriate information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and other logs as necessary.
- Responsible for Quality Assurance (QA)/Quality Control (QC) of cases moving through the laboratory.
- Assists as needed to perform other related duties and special projects to support the laboratory as required.
- Accepts other duties as assigned.
- Schedule: Wednesday-Saturday 8PM6:30AM
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety procedures for biohazards and chemicals, as well as quality control procedures and regulations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, Outlook, and general working knowledge of Internet for business use.
- Conditions of Employment: Individuals must successfully complete preemployment process, which includes criminal background check, drug screening, and reference verification.
Preferred Qualifications
- One to three years of experience in general laboratory operations preferred.
- Clinical Laboratory Sciences (AAS) certification preferred.
Training
- All job specific, safety, and compliance training are assigned based on the job functions associated with this employee.
Pay:
From $17.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
