- Assesses patient 's ability to safely and effectively perform independent living skills while designing the appropriate treatment plan.
- Implements the treatment plan and monitors patient progress.
- Educates the patient and family/caregiver about patient deficits and educates and facilitates a safe discharge with continued therapy measures.
- Helps implement continuity of care by participating in discharge planning so patient receives adequate treatment upon discharge.
- Maintains appropriate documentation that details the patient's response to therapy and the need for skilled intervention as outlined by regulatory bodies.
- Evaluation of patient based on physician order as well as the evaluation of ongoing and final effectiveness of treatment.
- Conducts initial assessments and completes within 24 hours after admission.
- Provides age-appropriate modalities and therapeutics interventions directly to patient as prescribed by physician, and in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Provides educational assistance to patients, families, students, other hospital personnel and to the general public.
- Communicate and demonstrate a professional image/attitude for patients, families, clients, coworkers and others
- Participates in the performance improvement activities of the unit or department.
- Reads and initials all department memos and meeting minutes.
- Attends all mandatory Hospital-wide Education seminars.
- Contributes to the delivery of cost-effective care by utilizing resources appropriately and maintaining equipment in order to prolong working life
- Performs all other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
- High school graduate or equivalent; additional college training preferred
- 1 year healthcare experience preferred
- Graduate of an Occupational Therapy Program approved by the CAHEA of the AMA in collaboration with the AOTA.
- Holds current state licensure or eligible for permanent license within 6 months of hire.
- EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in working with an adult and geriatric population. Education/experience with rehabilitation and / or a physically challenged population is preferred.
- Ability to lift/transfer patients and equipment.
- Ability to perform frequent and prolonged bending, stooping, crouching, walking and standing.
- Ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with patients, families, and coworkers. Time management, clinical reasoning, screening and assessment skills emphasized.

Job DescriptionWe are Gateway Regional Medical Center. Our primary function is to offer continuous nursing, medical, and other health and social services on a 24-hour basis, under physician directed care and RN supervision.
We service a multitude of patients and their families across our vast network, while remaining committed to the professional development of our staff, the functional improvement of our patients, and the cultivation of strong partnerships within our communities.
