Healthcare Alternative Systems, Inc. (H.A.S.) is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization providing behavioral health services to Chicago and the surrounding communities. We offer a continuum of programs addressing substance abuse, mental health, adolescent issues, family relationships, and more. Every year, H.A.S. serves over six thousand individuals.

Essential Functions:
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the incumbent provides individual and group counseling to participants, which includes presenting educational lectures, leading process groups, formulating and reviewing individualized treatment plans, and maintaining progress notes.
Addiction Counselor Responsibilities:
- Conducts didactic groups and provides individual counseling.
- Responsible for an assigned caseload, documents including discharge plans and monitor progress and response of participant to treatment.
- Performs intakes and assessments as instructed.
- Will do DUI services as needed.
- Provide an initial individual orientation for each new participant.
- Completes documentation of participants in the clinical records on a daily basis.
- Completes assessments of participants substance abuse history, develops treatment plans.
- Contact participant's case worker/referral source within the first week of treatment.
- Provide each participant with written treatment verification, if requested.
- Provide referral sources to participants when needed.
- Present cases at clinical staffing.
- Maintain participant records in accordance with agency standards.
- Comply with agency policies and procedures.
- Participate in regular agency staff meetings and training.
- Participate in agency fundraising efforts.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Addiction Counselor Qualifications:
- Must be certified by IAODAPCA.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of substance abuse and its modalities of treatment.
- Must have knowledge of ASAM criteria and DSM-V diagnosis.
- Must have knowledge of DHS regulations (2060/2090) and CARF.
- Knowledge of Illinois DUI laws.
- Bilingual/Bicultural (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Knowledge of MS Office Applications.
- Flexible to adapt to schedules and work load to the needs and demands of the program.
- Possession of a valid Illinois driver's license and willingness to use personal vehicle in course of employment.
- H.A.S. requires all staff to work onsite.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Master's degree in the Social or Human Sciences of Social Work from a regionally accredited educational institution which has U.S. Department of Education approval, or, a minimum of two (2) years in college working on degree is preferred.
- Must have at least two (2) years of counseling experience in the substance abuse and MISA (mental health) certified.
