About our Company:

Tucson Community Connections is a state contracted learning center for adults with physical and intellectual disabilities (cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism & cognitive delay.) We use the classroom and community for learning and skill building.

Our goal is to provide a service that encourages self-direction, offers essential resources and creates community connections for the people we serve.

We provide instruction and hands on experience in the areas of independent living, recreation, job skills building, fitness/physical therapy and the Arts.

We operate daytime Monday through Friday (8 am to 3:30 pm.) Our work is fast paced, challenging and rewarding. We do not provide health insurance, but we are family friendly and support our employees to care for their family members. We believe that the best way to provide a supportive learning environment for our students is to provide the same working environment for our employees.


Companion Responsibilities in our Program Centers:The Companions of the program centers utilize a schedule of weekly classes to plan a month of activities. Companions demonstrate and teach the basic principles of community and connection. Everyone works together on projects and events, utilizing communication skills and being adaptable. We practice and teach time management and organizational skills to be successful.

The weekly classes are in the following areas of skill development:


  • Creativity:Classes and activities are designed to give individuals experiences with a wide variety of Art Mediums; clay, têxtiles, watercolor and acrylic painting, writing, drawing, literature, music and jewelry. Companions work alongside our students and coach them on planning projects, use of tools and methods, and maintaining a creative work environment.

Wellness:Classes and activities are designed to give individuals experiences to improve health and vitality. Companions work alongside our students and coach them with fitness, fine and gross motor activities, healthy "you" classes, yoga and calming techniques.

Job skills:Job related skill building in work, volunteer and classroom settings. Soft skills; communication, self-management, teamwork, learning, problem solving, planning and organizing.

Minimum Requirements: All applicants must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, possess a valid class D driver's license - along with a clean driving record and have access to reliable transportation, they must be able to operate common office equipment, have basic word processing computer skills, be able to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, sit or stand for long periods of time, assist individuals in physical activity, work inside or out.


Preferred qualifications: 3 months experience working with individuals who have cognitive and/or physical disabilities. A Bachelor or Associate degree.


Compensation:
Depending upon experience and education, entry level is $ month probation/training wage), after probation wage is between $14.00 and $16.00 per hour, 38-40 hours/week, 40 hours paid sick leave, 7paid holidays, Holiday bonus.


Pay:
$ $16.00 per hour

  • Monday to Friday

  • Caregiving: 1 year (preferred)
