TELLER BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Training:
A high school diploma or equivalent with an emphasis in a business or accounting curriculum.


Skill(s): Moderate reading, writing, and grammar skills; proficient analytical and mathematics skills; proficient communicative and interpersonal relations skills; proficient eye-hand
coordination; ability to operate various office machines; ability to lift approximately fifty (50) lbs. of coin.


Experience:
Cash handling and Customer service.


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for performing a variety of duties to support the paying and receiving function of the community office; coordinating work within the unit or department, as well as with other departments and units; reporting pertinent information to the immediate supervisor; responding to inquiries or requests for information.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Demonstrates core values and guiding principles as outlined in the Bank's Mission, Vision and Value Statements of which the following are illustrative:
a. Gives exceptional customer service to both internal and external customers by providing prompt, polite and effective communication.

b. Participates as a member of the team.

c. Positively and proactively contributes to the Bank's Strategic Plan.

d. Demonstrates support of Management.


  • Ensures that all activities and work functions adhere to compliance requirements as are defined in company policies and procedures as well as state/federal laws and regulations.
Performs a variety of duties to support the paying and receiving function of the community office of which the following are illustrative:
a.

Provides customer service by accurately and efficiently completing all deposit, check cashing within approved authority and operating policy and other transactions involving negotiable instruments including cashier's checks, cash advances, new account referrals, etc.

b.

Accepts deposits of various account types; utility bill payments as appropriate, loan payments, safe deposit box rent, and other related payments.

c. Processes night deposits and mail deposits.

d. Greets and serves customers in a friendly and courteous manner.

e. Maintains an awareness of new business opportunities with customers; actively refers customers to appropriate customer service personnel.

f. Maintains an approved level of cash; turns in excess and mutilated cash.

g. Prepares daily settlement and proof of cash transactions; balances cash drawer accurately and efficiently on a daily basis.

h. Balances general ledger accounts related to the paying and receiving function, e.g., Utilities, EE Bonds, Coin, inter-bank accounts, etc.

i. Prepares reports relating to the teller function, e.g., currency, transaction, BSA, etc.

j. Processes manual direct deposit transactions for selected accounts.

k. Maintains supplies and an awareness of Teller supply inventory control.

Participates in the Jeff Bank's growth initiatives offering referrals and services to new and existing clients:
a. Actively serves as a team player involved in achieving branch goals.

b. Recommends the best accounts to customers using the sales presentation process and asks for the business.

c. Identifies sales opportunities at the teller line and drive-thru and makes professional referrals to other team members.


  • Provides efficient, helpful and courteous customer service.
a. Explains guidelines to customers instead of simply saying "no".

b. Demonstrates positive/welcoming demeanor.


  • Coordinates specific work tasks with other personnel within the unit or department as well as with other units or departments in order to ensure the smooth and efficient flow of information.
  • Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of all risk management programs and protocols.
  • Reports pertinent information to the immediate supervisor as requested, or according to an established schedule; compiles information as necessary or as directed and provides data to appropriate bank personnel.
  • Responds to inquiries relating to his/her particular area, or to requests from customers, other bank personnel, etc., within given time frames and within established policy.

ANCILLARY DUTIES

  • May be required, on occasion, to provide safe deposit box services to customers.
  • May be required to provide support in non-paying and receiving activities, e.g., new accounts
