Accountant for Parish - Ellicott City, United States - Church of the Resurrection
Description
Essential Functions
- Financial Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and uptodate financial records using QuickBooks Online accounting software.
- Accounts Payable and Receivable: Oversee routine accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions. Prepare documentation for shared expenses with Resurrection St. Paul School and St. Paul Church and record related journal entries.
- Bank Reconciliation: Perform monthly bank reconciliations on all cash and investment accounts to ensure that all transactions are accounted for and reconcile any discrepancies between bank statements and financial records.
- Budget Management: Develop and monitor the church's operating budget. Provide reports to committees/ departments as needed and assist with their budget preparation.
- Payroll: Calculate wages for church staff. Ensure compliance with all relevant employment laws and regulations.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare quarterly and annual financial reports for the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Prepare the agenda and lead monthly Finance Council meetings by presenting financial information in a clear and understandable manner.
- Compliance and Taxation: Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, including tax laws and reporting requirements for nonprofit organizations.
- Audit Preparation: Assist in the preparation for annual audits by providing necessary documentation and support to auditors.
- Financial Planning and Analysis: Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support strategic decisionmaking by the Finance Council. Identify opportunities for cost savings or revenue generation.
- Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality of all financial information and church records.
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting.
- 5 or more years of experience in accounting.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
