AFSCMEDescription Under direct supervision, receives training In the proper operation of the water treatment facility and the associated waste treatment facilities as prescribed by regulations, requirements, standards and guidelines.

Performs a variety of operations necessary to produce the proper amount of clear, safe potable water for consumer use. Reports to the Water Production Manager. Examples of Duties Attends training courses and engages In the study of water plant operations. Assists In conducting hourly checks and analyses of water for pH, turbidity, and chlorine residual; makes corrections as needed.

Assists In regulating the flow of water in order to maintain proper levels In tanks; takes and analyzes readings of raw water and water pressure hourly to determine rate of rise In storage tanks; adjusts pumps as needed.

Inspects plant equipment as necessary verifying proper operation; reports any maintenance needs to appropriate personnel and, when necessary, conducts emergency maintenance repairs to ensure consistent operation of critical equipment; performs preventative maintenance checks and procedures on certain plant equipment.

Collects water samples from raw water, treatment processes, distribution system, and waste treatment processes; analyzes water samples for certain chemical, physical and microbiological parameters In order to ensure proper water treatment processes are being followed.

Performs various housekeeping duties to Include cleaning slakers, emptying grit wheel barrows, changing chlorine tanks, etc.

Operates, utilizes and maintains various water plant pumps and motors in the performance of daily activities; utilizes small hand tools in making adjustments to equipment as required.

Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications High school graduate with two to four months of experience in water treatment procedures, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required sknls, knowledge and abilities.

Must successfully complete required continuing education courses to meet requirements.

Supplemental Information Knowledge of Job:

Has knowledge of the principles, practices, programs, policies and procedures of the department pertaining to the specific duties of the position.

Has knowledge of the overall operation of treatment facUitles of the City of North Miami Beach.

Has the ability to learn and maintain knowledge of the regulations, policies, and procedures of water and waste treatment specifically as they pertain to the responslbUitles of the position.

Has some knowledge of the functions and servicing requirements of mechanical equipment and machinery. Is able to learn and apply the processes Involved In the purification of water. Is knowledgeable of applicable safety rules and procedures and properly uses related protective equipment.

Has knowledge of the required chemicals used In operations in order to utilize and control such chemicals In a safe and effective manner.

Knows how to clean, repair and maintain a variety of machines and equipment to promote safe and efficient operations. Is able to Interact and communicate effectively with supervisors, other staff members and the general public. Has the mathematical ability to handle required calculations quickly and accurately.

Is knowledgeable and skilled In the utUlzatlon of a variety of machinery, tools, and equipment necessary to complete daily tasks.

Has the ability to learn and apply new skills needed In order to promote efficient completion of duties. Has good technical and human relations skills.
