***The Coordinator of Learning Advancement and Learning Specialist provides push-in and pull-out instructional support to both advanced and striving learners and their teachers in reading and/or math. This multifaceted position will be part of the Student Services Team and will spend approximately 60% of their time supporting learning advancement and 40% of their time on campus supporting striving learners (schedule to be determined each trimester upon review of student assessments and needs). This exempt position reports directly to the Director of Student Services.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Learning Advancement:
  • Meet with grade level General Studies teaching teams on a weekly basis to plan differentiated instruction and create extension opportunities for classroom work
  • Observe teachers and students to provide feedback on different ways to support advanced learners within the classroom
  • Refine the referral process for Learning Advancement services
  • Support small groups of advanced learners (pushin and pullout instruction) to introduce concepts, strategies and monitor progress based on the student need within each grade level
  • Design and implement independent study projects for students in 3rd 5th grade based on student needs
  • Provide ongoing staff and parent education regarding the latest research in educational practices for advanced learners
  • Learning Specialist:
  • Provide a mixture of pushin and pullout literacy support based on the needs of the students and of the classrooms, working on decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension
  • Assess students currently enrolled in the Learning Support Program as well as students referred to the program with running records (DRA, Fountas and Pinnell), phonics assessments, phonological awareness assessments, spelling inventories, and other assessments
  • Provide a mixture of pushin and pullout math support based on the needs of the students and of the classrooms
  • Analyze assessments to inform instruction; guide classroom teachers in closely looking at assessment data for instructional purposes
  • Communicate regularly with classroom teachers about student progress; discuss and support the implementation of modifications and accommodations for students
  • Attend meetings with the Student Support Team to coordinate instructional plans, discuss students referred to the Learning Support Program, and keep current on research in the field
  • Meet with administrators and Director of Student Services as needed to discuss student progress
  • Coordinate instruction with outside providers of students in the Learning Support Program (speechlanguage, tutors, educational therapists, psychologists, etc.)
  • General School Responsibilities:

  • Work on campus at Sinai Akiba Academy daily from 7:45 AM 3:45 PM as an exempt employee
  • Work with the Director of Student Services to coordinate curriculum that caters to the diverse learning needs of all students, including: curriculum development, faculty coaching, model teaching, developing shared norms for assessment, and guiding assessmentinformed instructional planning
  • Assist assessment team with administering and analyzing universal assessments (three times per year K5)
  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Services, gradelevel teams, and learning support teachers to analyze student assessment data and plan for instruction
  • Attend and participate in the following: faculty inservice meetings, student assemblies, and other school functions, as requested
  • Attend and occasionally lead weekly faculty meetings and actively participate in curricular discussions
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and keep current on educational issues and trends
  • Ensure student safety, and support healthy social dynamics, during assigned supervision responsibilities

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree; Master's Degree preferred
  • Degree and/or certification in Gifted & Talented Education (Licensure preferred)
  • Minimum of five years prior curriculum coordination or faculty coaching experience
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Warm, energetic, and engaging personality
