Project Engineer, Autopilot - Stanford, United States - Tesla
Description
**Project Engineer, Autopilot**
????Engineering & Information Technology????Palo Alto, California?? ID103040????Full-time **The Role**:
The Autopilot Programs team is responsible for scoping, prioritizing, tracking, and releasing Autopilot features from inception to launch. Past features the team has launched include Navigate on Autopilot, Smart Summon, Traffic Light and Stop Sign Control, Radar Removal and more than a dozen active safety features. Next, we are working towards full-self-driving functionality on city streets.
As an Autopilot Project Engineer you will partner with all Autopilot teams to deliver on large, cross-functional projects. This means working across the entire stack including: AI, perception planning and control, manual and auto-labeling, infrastructure, data analysis, simulation, quality assurance and much more. You will be responsible for owning new features, from inception to launch. This requires working with multidisciplinary teams to solve problems, fight fires, track progress, and ultimately update millions of customer cars with new safety critical software. We believe an autonomous future is a safer future, so success means shipping excellent, well validated features with a sense of urgency.
On Autopilot, every team member is expected to have a strong technical foundation in order to develop sound products. We expect you to be hands-on, examining the performance of your feature, digging into code, joining engineers on test drives and actioning user feedback.
**Responsibilities**:
Scope, plan, execute and release large projects on tight timelines
Work cross-functionally across all Autopilot teams and stakeholders within Tesla to break down problems into clear steps that drive development
Identify process inefficiencies and improve workflows with Autopilot Leadership, Program Management and Engineering teams
Find fires and fix them
Help identify what team priorities need to be and align resources accordingly
Understand the artificial intelligence and engineering stack in depth
Design validation strategies for new features so we can measure that they are safe to release
Build tools that help measure objective progress during feature development
Plan release rollouts to millions of customer vehicles globally
**Requirements**:
Proven track record of exceptional ability (i.e. you personally solved difficult problems that moved the needle on meaningful projects)
Desire to move fast, fight fires and fix problems without being asked
BS or higher in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or equivalent practical engineering experience and excellence
Strong problem solving ability, attention to detail and critical thinking skills
Excellent communication and multidisciplinary collaboration skills
Experience leading team efforts and/or project management experience
Ability to thrive in a constantly changing environment with high ambiguity
Familiarity with git, python and C++ a plus
Experience writing software in a production environment a plus
Passion for sustainable and autonomous technology and making the roads safer a plus
