    Project/Unit Description


    The Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory's (SEAL) Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Division (ISRD) is looking for a researcher with interest and experience in signal processing and algorithm development for radar applications.

    The ISR Division's projects focus on advanced signal processing, adaptive sensor technologies, advanced algorithms, machine learning, and modeling and simulation for applications that include airborne radar, electronic warfare, and undersea systems.

    The division supports work across the Intelligence Community (IC) and the Department of Defense (DoD), including the Air Force, Navy, and Office of the Secretary of Defense.

    Key products include physics-based modeling and simulation tools, system analyses, sensor signal processing algorithms, and real-time prototypes.

    The ideal candidate will be an experienced researcher with desire to apply engineering, physics, and mathematics to radar ISR problems of interest to the DoD & IC.

    Job Purpose


    The Algorithm & Analysis Engineer is responsible for the development and support of state-of-the-art algorithms involving data fusion, sensor fusion, machine learning, manned/unmanned avionics improvement programs, and genetic programming.

    The Algorithm & Analysis Engineer focuses on the design, analysis, software/hardware implementation, optimization, profiling, and experimental evaluation of computer algorithms, bridging the gap between algorithm theory and practical applications of algorithms in software engineering.

    Additionally, the Algorithm & Analysis Engineer conducts statistical analysis of multi-modal and time-varying data to characterize and quantify system qualities and deficiencies, resulting in recommendations and development of improvements.

    Key Responsibilities

    Design data cleaning and analysis strategies, proposing new tools and modifications to existing paradigms.

    Design and execute algorithm tests, providing oversight to others.

    Lead algorithm design discussions for entire studies.

    Architect overall algorithms with detailed system and integration considerations.

    Lead technical report execution and provide oversight to others.

    Lead discussions with sponsors for large portions of research.

    Serve as technical lead for small projects at sponsor sites, providing guidance to others.

    Lead technical execution and writing for sections of journal articles and conference presentations.

    Conduct literature searches for finding new avenues of thought and bodies of work to explore.

    Serve as a mentor to student researchers, including co-ops, Graduate Research Associates (GRAs), and others through Institute programs.

    Additional Responsibilities


    The ideal candidate will be interested in working in technical areas that include detection theory, estimation theory, RF systems analysis, adaptive array processing, and digital beamforming.


    The ideal candidate will be expected to participate in the execution of multiple simultaneous projects, including attending technical meetings, completing assigned technical tasks, collaborating with colleagues, and presenting their research to the technical team and technical sponsors.


    Tasking will be assigned to leverage the existing skills of the candidate, to include physics-based modeling, application of advanced mathematical techniques for data processing, digital signal processing, image processing, signals analysis, radar system modeling, and radar performance prediction.


    The ideal candidate will be expected to develop relationships with current and potential customers, and contribute to whitepapers and proposals.


    As their career develops, candidates would be expected to lead proposals for new business, mentor junior staff, and lead projects.

    Required Minimum Qualifications

    Candidates currently enrolled in an accredited degree program relevant to this position will be considered. The candidate must have a graduation date of no later than December

    2023.

    Experience with radar applications, signal processing, or sensor algorithm development.

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as evidenced by conference presentations or papers.

    Experience working classified DoD or DoE projects.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Active TS/SCI security clearance.

    Ph.
    D. degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or a similar related field.

    3+ years of experience programming in Matlab.

    5+ years research experience.

    Experience leading research and development teams.

    Demonstrated success at securing research funding.

    9 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or other related field.


    7 years of related experience with a Masters' degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or other related field.

    4 years of related experience with a Ph.
    D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or other related field.

    U.S. Citizenship Requirements

    Due to our research contracts with the U.S. federal government, candidates for this position must be U.S. Citizens.

    Clearance Type Required

    Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain an active security clearance.
