    Description

    Nuvance Health has a network of convenient hospital and outpatient locations - Danbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital, Norwalk Hospital and Sharon Hospital in Connecticut, and Northern Dutchess Hospital, Putnam Hospital Center and Vassar Brothers Medical Center in New York - plus multiple primary and specialty care physician practices locations, including The Heart Center, a leading provider of cardiology care.

    Non-acute care is offered through various affiliates,


    Summary:
    Provides quality technical and customer service to all customers. Performs immunohistochemistry of new procedures and trains junior technologists. Participates in laboratory performance improvement program.


    Responsibilities:

    • Provides quality technical and customer service to all customers in compliance with the expectations set by the organization.
    • Performs computer accessioning and proper specimen labeling, insuring instrument specimen integrity.
    • Assists Pathology Residents and Pathologists as needed in Frozen Section & Gross Room as needed.
    • Performs routine Histology procedures necessary to prepare slides for examination by Pathologists,
    including but not limited to embedding, cutting, mounting and staining.


    • Performs special stains in accordance to quality standards.
    • Initiates work procedures and performs all quality control, instrument maintenance & documentation
    required by accrediting agencies.


    • Communicates effectively and appropriately with coworkers, pathology residents & pathologists to assure the quality & integrity of the service.
    • Maintains a safe environment for one's self and coworkers to comply with all regulatory agencies & with hospital's & Laboratory's Safety Programs.
    • Assists in maintaining section's inventory to ensure proper levels of reagents, controls and disposables.
    • Performs Immunhistochemistry of new procedures.
    • Trains junior technologists and assists in implementation of new procedures. Assists in updating & writing procedures as assigned by the section's Technical Specilaist. Participates in section's & laboratory
    Performance Improvement Program.


    • Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Other information:
    This position requires a minimum formal education of Associate Degree and minimum of three years job-related experience.

    Required Skills:
    Language skills(both verbal and written), detail orientated, independent self-starter, ability to multi-task, manual dexterity.


    Criteria Desired (Not Required):
    Histotechnologist certification preferred, or eligible.
