    Description

    The Safety Engineer will apply system safety principles to all aspects of the Authority's operations, focusing on the development, implementation, and management of the Authority's System Safety and Hazard Management Program following U.S. Federal Transit Administration and Georgia Department of Transportation regulations, standards, and guidance.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Identifies, investigates, and analyzes causes of hazardous conditions and safety hazards, and develops or approves corrective action plans.
    • Leads the development and implementation of Authority-wide system safety policies, plans, and procedures.
    • Creates safety programs to ensure employees are aware of safe working conditions and practices.
    • Performs tasks related to MARTA's safety and security certification, including establishing safety and security design criteria and verifying design and specification conformance. Executes the hazard management program by identifying, assessing risks, mitigating hazards, and tracking/reporting risks.
    • Produces detailed reports for MARTA management and regulatory agency review, addressing system safety engineering requirements such as hazard identification.
    • Acts as the lead on most assigned projects and supports lower-level engineers and technicians. Collaborates closely with other MARTA engineers to enhance safety, quality, and efficiency.
    • Serves as the lead System Safety Engineer on projects.

    Requirements:

    • Professional Engineer licensed to practice in the State of Georgia.
    • Preferably experienced in Electrical or Mechanical engineering.
    • Minimum of ten years' experience as an engineer.
    • Minimum of five years' experience in preparing and documenting hazard analyses.
    • Transit System Safety Professional (TSSP) certification in rail is preferred.
    • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification is a plus.
