Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least one-year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience, and possess superior oral and written communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills, exhibit good judgment and function with minimal guidance in a highly demanding environment.
Proof of active bar membership is required.
United States citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of legal issues facing servicemembers and veterans; and/or direct experience litigating civil cases in the federal courts; and/or a federal judicial clerkship is desired.

Salary Information: Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $62,107 to $162,447.

Description
DutiesAn appointment with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia ("the Office") offers unique and challenging experiences for the highly motivated attorneys: an opportunity to work on their own caseload. Working in the Civil Division, within the Civil Rights Enforcement Unit, the AUSA will carry out the mission of the U.S. Department of Justice's Servicemembers and Veterans Initiative (SVI) by enforcing statutes such as the Servicemembers' Civil Relief Act (SCRA), the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). In addition to casework, the AUSA will engage in outreach to military legal assistance offices, veterans' groups, and other stakeholders, to educate servicemembers and veterans about their legal rights and how the Office enforces those rights.
