  • Salary range: $76, $93, Under the general direction of the Fire Alarm Unit Leader, the responsibilities of the Fire Alarm Technician include but are not limited to the following:
  • Independently perform service, repairs, installation, and programming of commercial fire alarm systems.
  • Independently perform troubleshooting and fault diagnostics of fire alarm devices, wiring, and software.
  • May supervise and evaluates the work of subordinate personnel and assists in training of staff members.
  • Provide field oversight and QA/QC review of contractor work and verifies compliance with applicable Codes and Standards. Witnesses and conducts inspections and tests to verify that


installations and repairs are completed in a workmanlike manner and follow good engineering practices.- Set priorities, schedules and coordinates work by contractors and in-house personnel.

Regularly visits and inspects sites.

  • May issue change orders to original specifications to accommodate changing field conditions or to correct specification errors or omissions; upon Supervisory approval of recommendations,
prepares change orders.

  • Minimum QualificationsA four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and one of the following:
  • Four years of full-time satisfactory experience in the installation, repair and/or inspection of mechanical equipment in the areas of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, elevators, and/or plumbing in buildings, facilities, structures and grounds, at least two years of which must have been experience in a building or facility of at least 100,000 square feet or a number of buildings of at least 3 stories each, adding up to a total of at least 100,000 square feet; or

2.\tAdvance knowledge in the NFPA Standards 70, 72 and the NYC Electric Code.
3.\tNICET Level 2 (or greater) in Fire Alarm Systems.
5.\tMust hold and maintain a valid FDNY S-98 Certificate of Fitness.
6.\tKnowledge of coordination with NFPA 25 testing requirements.
7.\tKnowledge of fire alarm products and applicability.
8.\tFactory EST and Kidde fire alarm products certification and programming ability.
9.\tExperience in inspection and testing of water-based fire suppression systems.
