Job Objective:


The Rapid Response Team (RRT) is a Critical Care Registered Nurse who is responsible for responding to rapid Response Calls.


Duties and Responsibilities:

The RRT meets all the essential duty requirements of a Critical Care Registered Nurse.

Additionally, the RRT must exemplify expert clinical skills, effective planning, leadership abilities, and ensure appropriate delivery of patient care according to the established standards.

The RRT must work effectively with an interdisciplinary team and possess strong communication skills. The RRT must report to House Supervisor every shift.

Rapid Response Team:
Primary Focus
- Respond to Code Blue calls in the main hospital and in the WIP.

  • Respond to Code Stroke calls in the main hospital and in the WIP.
  • Evaluate and facilitate, with MD, treatment plan for RRT patients.
  • Working knowledge of proper level of care placement.
  • Provide expert consult for deteriorating patients in the main hospital and in the WIP.
  • Use standardized order set to treat the patient requiring care by the Rapid Response Team.
  • Assume primary care of patients waiting placement in higher level of care.
  • Resource nurse for patients waiting for placement in higher level of care.
  • Provide support for ED admits awaiting admission to CCU and PCU.
  • Round on all inpatient patient care areas throughout the shift (main hospital and WIP).
  • Follow up on CCU downgrades and floor downgrades.
  • Respond to calls for change in patient's condition.
  • Assist in CCU as needed.
  • Assist with CCU and PCU patients who require moderate sedation during procedures provided off of the CCU and PCU units.

Critical Care Team Member:
Secondary Focus
- Cover patients in CCU when primary nurse is off the unit.

  • Patient care.
  • Assist with bedside procedures.
  • Collaborate with the CN of CCU and assist as needed.
  • Complete RRT and/or response documentation in the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Sepsis Surveillance.
  • Review Vigilanz Reports.
  • Maintain Rapid Response Data Base in Midas.
  • Act as critical care transport when need arises for emergent transport of a critical care patient that needs higher level of care.

  • Meets skills and abilities of a Critical Care Registered Nurse.
  • Demonstrates accurate knowledge of patient acuity system.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of staffing guidelines for CCU.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of conscious sedation.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of admission criteria for level of care determination.

Education and Experience:


Education

  • Registered Nurse
  • PALS certification preferred
  • National Certification in Critical Care Nursing (CCRN) highly preferred

Experience

  • Level 5 Registered Nurse

Required Licensure and/or Certifications:


  • Registered Nurse
  • BLS/ACLS
