Research Assistant I, Infectious Disease


Working under the supervision of a Principal Investigator and Research Coordinator and following established policies and procedures, assists with clinical research studies.


May be responsible for the following activities:

recruiting and evaluating patients for studies; collecting and organizing patient data; scheduling patients for study visits; transporting laboratory specimens; maintaining and updating data generated by the study.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct HIV, COVID19, and other infectious disease Clinical Trials in both healthy and immunocompromised individuals.
  • Provide assistance on clinical research studies as per study guidelines and protocols.
  • May contribute to study and database design, if applicable.
  • Recruit and evaluate potential study participants. Per protocol instruction, conduct telephone interviews and schedule participants for study visits and screening.
  • Responsible for managing various regulatory submissions to the Institutional Review Board and/or Biosafety Committee (i.e., study registrations, amendments, reportable events, study closures).
  • Responsible for maintaining the patient information database for the study. Required to input data and maintain participant records as part of recordkeeping function.
  • Responsible for preparing Case Report Forms for participants and monitoring visits.
  • Responsible for assisting in quarterly monitoring visits from study sponsors.
  • Responsible for mailing various study information or packets to study participants.
  • Answer any phone calls and inquiries regarding the study protocol. When appropriate, refer participants to their supervisor or clinical staff.
  • Will be trained to perform clinical procedures such as, but not limited to: phlebotomy, vitals assessments, pointofcare tests, nasal/nasopharyngeal swabs, and other specimen collections as specified in the protocol.
  • Collect and coordinate laboratory and tissue specimens transport to designated lab personnel. May include limited processing of samples, if needed.
  • Monitor and set up any needed equipment.
  • Maintain inventory and order supplies when necessary.
  • All other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
BS or BA Degree, New or recent graduate with relevant course or project work

  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with the study participants.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of clinical research protocols.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.
  • Careful attention to detail.
  • Sound degree of computer literacy.
  • Ability to methodically record data.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in an Infectious Disease ambulatory clinic setting located in the main hospital.
