Department Summary
Cahill 4 is an adult Psychiatric locked unit. There are 18 beds available, where various psychiatric illnesses such as Schizophrenia, bi-polar disorders, and affective disorders are treated. We also manage Personality disorders, Dual-diagnosis, Adjustment disorder, Psychosis, and offer DBT/CBT Group Therapy. According to DMH, our restraint rate is lower than average, we use sensory approaches to de-escalate tensions, and all staff are well-versed in trauma-informed care, ensuring each patient receives personalized care.

Job Purpose
The Milieu Counselor is an integral part of the multidisciplinary team. Under the guidance of a Registered Nurse, they ensure a safe and structured environment in an inpatient psychiatric setup. The role involves addressing the individual needs of crisis patients, performing safety checks, leading group activities, providing one-on-one support as necessary, and effectively handling aggressive behavior.

Qualifications
High School Diploma Required; B.A., B.S., or M.A. preferred, or equivalent years of experience in human services. Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is mandatory.
