12 Hour Day Shift
Performs a variety of direct patient care procedures to assist the unit manager, professional staff and physicians in providing patient care focused on the needs of the patient.
GENERAL PATIENT CARE - Meets the comfort and hygiene needs of the patient by providing care services such as bathing, oral hygiene procedures, hair care, bed pan/urinal use, skin care and garment, linen and bedding changes.
Distributes meals and beverages, takes vital signs, collects lab specimens.TECHNICAL CARE - Assists with completion of patient testing and treatment procedures, changes dressings, obtains blood specimens by utilizing appropriate skin puncture techniques, performs
May also set up and prime IV tubing and perform a 12-lead ECG and simple tracheostomy suctioning and care.
EQUIPMENT - Assists physician and professional staff in equipment supply and set up.COMMUNICATION - Performs required documentation and communicates in a competent and effective manner to meet patient and/or family needs and regulatory requirements.
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT - Utilizes time and resources effectively to promote quality and cost outcomes.Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development for the appropriate age span of the units patients.

Adolescence Young Adult Middle Adult Geriatrics
Preferred:
High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education
Preferred: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience
Other:
Completion of a Nursing Assistant Program with placement on the Illinois Department of Health Nurse Aide Registry or verification of an equal or higher educational level in a clinically focused program.
Individuals working as Patient Care Assistants at Loyola University Medical Center prior to 1997 are exempt from the above guidelines and are grandfathered into the Patient Care Tech roles upon successful completion of an in-house orientation and training program for the Patient Care Tech position.
