JOB SUMMARY:

Established in 1991, Protatek Reference Laboratory (PRL) is passionate about high quality, accurate and timely laboratory services to veterinary professionals, both on a national and international level.

PRL specializes in diagnostic assays which aid in the confirmatory diagnosis of a variety of rickettsial, bacterial, viral, protozoal, fungal and other diseases of domestic and exotic animals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This position is part-time and requires some weekend work.

• Conduct analyses according to standard operating procedures
• Prepare buffers and other solutions
• Maintain and store specimens
• Report any testing issues immediately upon detection
• Log in samples, finalize lab results, report processing and filing
• Assist administratively as needed, including answering phones, data entry, ordering supplies, shipping samples, etc.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to prepare various reagents
• Ability to prepare _
  precisely measured _dilutions of specimens
• Microscopic experience
• Basic knowledge of cell culture techniques
• Computer proficiency
• Detail oriented, organized, and able to follow written and oral instruction
• Ability to work independently/alone, trouble shoot issues as they arise, and flexible to take on any tasks as assigned

PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in diagnostic serology
• Knowledge of companion animal diseases
• Prior veterinary diagnostic laboratory experience

EDUCATION:

• Bachelor's degree (B.S. or equivalent) preferred, Veterinary Technician degree, working towards degrees listed, OR equivalent experience

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to both office and laboratory environments.

Laboratory setting includes exposure to and working with animal specimens, including serum, whole blood and CSF as well as some chemicals.

The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 30 pounds.
