Basic Qualifications

Salary range begins at $75,000 depending on experience.

Education/Training:
High School diploma or equivalent. Any additional railcar certifications a plus.


Skill(s):Proficient reading, writing, grammar, and mathematics skills; proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills; proficient mechanical skills, proficient PC skills, including Internet; demonstrated supervisory skills; visual and auditory skills; ability to stand, sit, bend, reach, climb, and lift items weighing 50 lbs. or less.


Experience:
A minimum of five (5) years' experience in railcar related industry. Railcar Inspection experience preferred.


General Responsibilities
Responsible for managing the daily operations of the inbound inspection department.

This oversight of the department includes organizing workflow to best assist production needs, managing inspection department employees with daily workday duties, coordinating with other departments on car inspection statuses, all while representing the customer by understanding the rules and regulations of the FRA, AAR, and other regulatory compliance agencies.


Essential Duties

  • Performs a variety of duties in support of the inspection process as part of the team:
  • a. Ensures proper inspections are performed according to correct rules and regulations set forth by customers procedures, in-house company policies, AAR rules, and the FRA regulations.
- b. Review estimates on cars which have been inspected before being sent to the customer to ensure accuracy.
- c. Communicate as the liaison with customers on their cars and their inspection status.
- d. Schedule, coordinate, and function as the main point of contact with outside inspectors of the car owners. Represent CRS as they perform inspections on customers' cars and notate exceptions.
- e. Routinely use AS400 for proper pricing of parts.
- f. Communicate with purchasing department on requests for quotes to ensure proper dates are used for the scheduling of repair.
- g. Attending status meetings, being prepared for any updates, as necessary.

  • Participates with other departments in establishing specific company goals as needed.
  • Audit department as necessary as means for continual improvement.
  • Abides by the current laws and organizational policies and procedures designed and implemented to promote an environment which is free of harassment and other forms of illegal discriminatory behavior in the workplace.
  • Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness and the company's compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Directly supervises assigned personnel as follows:
  • a. Assists in the selection of new personnel as appropriate.
- b. Makes provisions for the proper orientation and training of new personnel; trains new personnel as required.
- c. Reviews employee performance throughout the orientation period and on a regularly scheduled basis thereafter.
- d. Organizes, schedules, and distributes work among assigned personnel.
- e. Keeps personnel informed of pertinent policies and procedures affecting the department and/or their jobs; creates an atmosphere in which upward communication from employees is encouraged.
- f. Administers personnel policies and procedures as established by company policy.

  • Reports pertinent information to the immediate supervisor as requested, or according to an established schedule; compiles information as necessary or as directed and provides data to appropriate personnel.
  • Communicates with other departments and appropriate staff personnel to integrate activities.
  • Responds to inquiries relating to his/her particular area, or to requests from customers, other personnel, etc., within given time frames and within established policy.

Ancillary Duties

  • Performs tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, but which may be altered or re-designed depending upon individual circumstances.
