    Description

    Heritage Works is seeking a community-centered fundraiser to lead the organizations day-to-day fundraising initiatives and successfully implement a $10 Million capital campaign to bring a mixed-used development to North Corktown. Although Heritage Works is a lean organization that has limited organizational capacity, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to hire a support staff member.

    The Director of Development will serve in a strategic leadership role for the organization, developing and overseeing fund development, and is responsible for the strategic implementation of the organizations fundraising strategies. The successful candidate will have the ability to hit the ground running. Additionally, the Director of Development serves as the primary fundraiser for HWs capital campaign; working with leadership to develop cultivation strategies, drafting and submitting grant applications, and soliciting and stewarding major donors. The person in this position reports directly to the Executive Director. The Director of Development will assist the Executive Director in developing an internal and external culture of philanthropy and will work closely with executive staff to support cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual, corporate, and foundation donors. This position will be the main contact for all funders and will be heavily engaged in marketing the overall case for support and capital case statement for the organization. The Director of Development provides an essential function as staff lead for fund development and as an interface between the Executive Director, board of directors, committee members, external partners and stakeholders on a day-to-day basis.

    The Director of Development will be highly organized and able to prioritize and manage multiple campaigns and projects; have strong administrative, organizational, and communication skills; develop and maintain positive interpersonal relations with staff, board members, committee members, and outside contacts; and exercise a high degree of integrity while managing highly sensitive and confidential information. The Director of Development will be able to work effectively both within teams and independently, as well as with remote supervision, to accomplish goals and implement initiatives. The successful candidate works proactively, anticipating needs, conflicts, and opportunities while exercising considerable judgment, initiative, and discretion, and is comfortable advancing projects with remote supervision due to flexible work schedule. This is a new position and may evolve over time.

    Position Responsibilities:

    • Develop, implement, and execute a comprehensive fund development strategy that meets the annual fundraising goals of the organization.
    • Work with the Executive Director to implement strategies for a successful capital campaign that includes cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual, corporate and foundation donors.
    • Attend cultivation, informational, and solicitation meetings with current and prospective individual, corporate and foundation funders.
    • Steward development of and oversee implementation of corporate and individual donor development strategies.
    • Oversee in-person and virtual fundraising and stakeholder engagement events, including all event logistics.
    • Establish and implement major gift funding strategies.
    • Draft donor communications and prepare proposals, grants and other solicitation and stewardship materials including grant reports and funder impact reports.
    • Update CRM software, databases and donor records. Heritage Works currently uses Bloomerang.
    • Regularly identify and engage with prospective funders, including foundations, individual donors, and corporate supporters.
    • Develop and research prospects and potential donors for the organization.
    • Administrate the grant proposal process, including facilitating, reviewing, writing grant proposals, researching, compiling data, composing letters, and building relationships with funders.
    • Attend regular meetings with the Executive Director, consultants and staff to accomplish fund development strategies and monitor fundraising year-to-date goals.
    • Keep abreast of trends and changes in fundraising climate and assess impact on organization.
    • Lead board fund development and other committee meetings.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Skills and Qualifications:

    • Must embrace the mission of Heritage Works.
    • Must embrace community-centric fundraising.
    • Superb written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
    • Time management and flexibility with job duties.
    • Competent in G-Suite, CRM software, and related platforms.
    • Self-directed and able to work independently with remote supervision.
    • Demonstrated strategic planning, organization, and coordination skills.
    • Ability to work outside standard hours as needed, including occasional evenings and weekends.
    • Highly organized and able to prioritize and manage multiple varied projects; specificity to detail, protocols, and professionalism, including highest level of discretion with confidential information.
    • Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self confidence, common sense and good listening ability.
    • 4-6 years of professional experience in philanthropy, fundraising or business development roles
    • Demonstrated success with multimillion dollar capital campaigns.
    • Membership in professional organizations and CFRE credential is a plus.

    Compensation, Benefits, and Terms:

    • Salary for this position is $70,000 per year.
    • Benefits package, including life insurance, medical, and dental coverage for employee after 90 days.
    • 100% of pre-approved work-related expenses to be paid or reimbursed.
    • Up to 10 days of paid time off after 6 months.
