Economic Self Sufficiency Medi-Cal/CalFresh Outreach Community Workers provide a wide variety of community services of employment, emergency, remedial, and educational nature for the general public and for socially, economically or mentally disadvantaged persons, which may include individual and group instruction and counseling, case management, and outreach.

The Community Workers in these positions will support the Economic Self Sufficiency branch.

Economic Self Sufficiency Medi-Cal/CalFresh Outreach Community Workers will focus on conducting outreach and retention activities for various public assistance programs to assist underserved communities in San Mateo County.

There are two vacancies: 1 regular vacancy and 1 limited term vacancy.

  • Drive a 31.5feet Mobile vehicle; drive own car to outreach events.
  • Collaborate with county and community partners including conducting presentations and training, participating in countywide and community workgroups and meetings, and providing program and operational updates via enewsletter, mailers, etc.
  • Assist with the implementation of system and process improvements.
  • Perform data collection.
  • Provide assistance and support services to both customers and staff.
  • Scheduling and recordkeeping.
  • Develop immediate solutions to emergency problems and expedite delivery of needed services.
  • Attending staff and inservice meetings.
  • Referring clients to other departments and/or agencies for appropriate support.




NOTE:
Limited Term Employees are assigned to assignments not to exceed three years.
They receive medical and dental benefits, similar to regular employees, and a defined contribution retirement plan.

The eligible list generated from this recruitment may be used to fill future extra-help, term, unclassified, and regular classified vacancies.


Qualifications:


_Licensure:

This position requires possession of a class C California driver license or equivalent.


_Education and Experience:
_
**Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and skills is qualifying.

A typical way of gaining the knowledge and skills for a _Community Worker II_ is two years experience in providing community services of an emergency, remedial, and educational nature for socially, economically or mentally disadvantaged persons.


_Knowledge of:

_ **Problems, needs, attitudes, and behavior patterns of disadvantaged individuals and of the total community served; resources, residents, and problems of the area served and basic recordkeeping principles and practices.


_Skill/Ability to:

_ Exercise good judgment and tact; relate and communicate effectively with residents of the community served; function as a team member and to benefit from supervision and training; interpret agency programs and policies to members of the community served; write clear and comprehensive reports; analyze problems, formulate plans, and put them into effect with minimum supervision, and stand and walk for extended periods of time and lift and carry equipment and supplies used in the course of the work.

Current County of San Mateo and County of San Mateo Superior Court of California employees with at least six months (1040 hours) of continuous service in a classified regular, probationary, Confidential and Management extra-help/limited term, and SEIU or AFSCME represented extra help/limited term positions prior to the final filing date will receive five points added to their final passing score on this examination.
