**Job Summary**
We are currently seeking an intern in chemistry and materials research as a member of the Advanced Materials and Energetics (AME) Division during Fall Semester 2024 (August-December). Interns will work closely in the lab with a team of scientists and engineers to develop innovative recycling methods for textiles and plastics. This position is 100% onsite located in Columbus, OH.
**Responsibilities**
Intern activities may include some or all of the following:
+ Conducting literature searching on existing plastic and textile recycling methods to support the development of new, innovative recycling methods.
+ Development of novel methods for the chemical breakdown of recyclable materials.
+ Interfacing with biologists and biochemists at Battelle to convert polymer breakdown products into advanced materials.
+ Casting of polymer films and evaluation of their mechanical properties.
+ Preparing samples for and analyzing the data from characterization methods including but not limited to NMR spectroscopy, FTIR, TGA, and DSC analysis.
+ Presenting data from the research program in a final presentation to the AME team.
**Key Qualifications**
+ Must be currently pursuing bachelors or master's degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field.
+ Must be a U.S. Citizen
+ Must be able to work on-site at Battelles King Ave. campus in Columbus, OH
