Job Summary:


  • Provides taskspecific, program and technical support to the U. S. Postal Inspection Service's (USPIS) Technical Services Unit. The Investigative Camera Technician will install and maintain the Investigative Camera systems.
  • Essential Functions:
  • Camera Systems Installation
  • Conducts physical site surveys to determine the equipment and procedures required to obtain best possible video evidence.
  • Assist with the installation of camera systems/kits in USPS locations.
  • Technical Support
  • Troubleshoot camera and network issues, onsite and remotely as appropriate.
  • Serve as the point of contact with USPS network stakeholders.
  • Training
  • Instruct and train others both remotely and in person on the use of investigative camera systems.
  • Reporting Responsibilities
  • Responsible for documenting and reporting progress as required by the assigned task(s).

Knowledge Skills and Experience:


  • Substantial experience installing and supporting an investigative camera program at a law enforcement agency is highly desired.
  • Knowledge of criminal investigative and surveillance equipment utilized by law enforcement agencies, at a level sufficient to troubleshoot hardware and network issues.
  • Previous experience installing and supporting the installation of investigative camera systems.
  • Ability and knowledge to install IP/Network investigative camera systems in indoor/outdoor locations and varying architectural structures.
  • Ability to work in a team environment to complete installation.
  • Ability to plan and carry out tasks and projects to completion within reasonable specified time frames without immediate supervision.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing at a level of proficiency sufficient to effectively convey technical equipment guidance and instruction to Inspection Service personnel.
  • Ability to provide reports and briefings to
    USPIS Management as required.
  • Ability to work in challenging environmental conditions, confined spaces, and climb ladders.
  • Ability to travel within and outside the continental United States as needed and submit associated travel documentation in a timely manner.

Education Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or demonstrated relevant work experience as required by assigned project or initiative.

  • Physical Requirements:
  • Individuals must be physically able to perform efficiently the duties of the position, which require arduous exertion involving prolonged standing, walking, bending and reaching, climbing ladders, and may involve handling heavy objects.
  • Due to the nature of law enforcement work and operations, position may require occasional support outside of core working hours, as well as intermittent weekend support, mission dependent.
