Job Objective:


Provides safety and security services, protecting customers, employees, and property by enforcing the laws of the State of California and the policies of Antelope Valley Hospital under the direction of lead officers, supervisors, and the Director of Safety and Security.


Duties and Responsibilities
A. Actively participates in and implements the security management program

  • Monitors hospital CCTV system, alarm systems, and communication equipment, dispatching staff as needed
  • Implements hospital access control procedures at all hospital entrances
  • Responds to emergency calls, making initial assessments of situations using tact, diplomacy, and judgment
  • Resolves violent and potentially violent situations
  • Intervenes with individuals attempting to impose physical harm to themselves or who are posing a threat to others or to hospital property
  • Provides security and protection to Hospital patients, visitors, employees and customers by patrolling areas
  • Completes necessary departmental forms, reports, and logs in a timely and detailed manner
B. Enforces the laws of the State of California and the policies and procedures of the Hospital.

C. Greets all customers, offering assistance as needed.

D. Maintains and wears complete and neat uniform per department dress code.

E. Observes and reports faulty and/or unsafe equipment, including fire and safety related items.

F. Carries out safety and infection control procedures to ensure customer and employee safety.

G. Supports and participates in the Hospital's performance improvement process.


Non-Essential Duties:


  • Fuels security vehicles, checks fluids levels as needed, and conduct a preliminary safety inspection of vehicle before each use.
  • Keeps locker room, SecOps and personal locker clean.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of basic reporting skills.

  • Develops writing skills required for compiling detailed reports.

Education and Experience:


Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred

Experience

  • 6 months Security related experience preferred

Required Licensure and/or Certifications:


  • Possession of a valid California driver's license
  • Current California Guard Card
  • Valid First Aid and/or CPR card maintained at all times
  • Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) designation from the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 90 days of hire.
  • Certified Advanced Healthcare Security Officer (CAHSO) designation from IAHSS within
180 days of hire.

  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention 8 hour course from the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) within
90 days of hire and recertification annually.

  • Health Stream coursework, within 60 days of hire, on:
  • Workplace Violence
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS)
  • Emergency Management
