- Ability to work independently on the research and development of key new products and improved products.
- Develops and manages project systems for short- and long-range research programs. Uses Stage Gate, Gantt Charts, Design of Experiments Methods, Project Database (DFN) or similar methods to manage and assure project completion dates are met.
- Maintains complete and exhaustive records of formulas, process methods and product standards used in development
- Maintains required records to support patent actions and assists in obtaining patents on inventions. Prepares and presents technical papers and reports as required.
- Works closely with Sales/Marketing, Product Management, Manufacturing, Sourcing and other departments to provide advice and engineering services to meet the Company's overall goals.
- Establishes and maintains contact with Product Management of key accounts to keep abreast of industry trends, competitive activity and provide technical advice and assistance as needed.
- Bachelor or Master degree in Metallurgical/Welding Engineering
- Have fundamental understanding of steel properties and impact on weld performance
- Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience in roles with increasing responsibility; experience in Filler Metal Development preferred
- Ability to review specifications and conduct tests to confirm product meets specifications
- Clear understanding of the development-to-market process
- Good communication skills, ability to work with cross functional teams, and manage projects
- Ability to travel globally up to 20%
- Open to relocation
