    Description

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Performs a variety of activities throughout the hospital to maintain a safe and efficient hospital environment, which enhances the quality of patient care.

    Position: General Service Tech Licensed - HVAC

    Department: Plant Operations

    Schedule: Full Time, 40 Hours, Monday - Friday, 6:30AM-3:00PM

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

    • Performs all repairs and maintenance of all heating/cooling and ventilating components for efficient and cost effective BMC operations.
    • Performs all repairs and maintenance of refrigeration systems included but not limited to kitchen equipment ice machines water bubblers etc.
    • Operates tests and overhauls a variety of air conditioning, ventilation, refrigeration systems and associated equipment. Performs tasks within capabilities involving piping systems, motors and controllers.
    • Maintains and performs repairs on HVAC equipment, using knowledge of pneumatic control systems and/or of electronic control systems.
    • Sets up scaffolding, rigging and ladders as necessary in a manner consistent with safety codes.
    • Estimates time and materials required; keeps computerized records and submits reports of work performed.
    • Performs daily record keeping requirement, including entering and updating work performed in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
    • Maintains appropriate service and repair records.
    • Perform cycle counts and inventories equipment parts and supplies. Places orders for supplies when supplies are below par.
    • Maintains a clean and dust-free work environment.

    Other duties:

    • Responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service.
    • May assist with training and monitoring the work of other junior staff or temporary help in the area.
    • Assists and serves as back up to other Facilities employees within the scope of their abilities and skill set.
    • Adapts to changes in the departmental needs including but not limited to: adjusting assignments, being flexible to work different hours when needed, etc.
    • Utilizes hospital's behavioral standards as the basis for decision making and to support the department and the hospital's mission and goals.
    • Conforms to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including those pertaining to patient rights, so that the best possible customer service may be provided.
    • Follows established hospital infection control and safety procedures.
    • Other related duties as needed.

    JOB REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATION:

    Graduation from high school (or GED), supplemented by completion of a Union, private (in-house), military, or trade school apprenticeship program that includes related theory and on-the-job work.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:

    Massachusetts Refrigeration Tech License, Massachusetts Reclaim and recovery license or Master Electrical license is required.

    EXPERIENCE:

    Requires at least three years performing HVAC installation and/or repair in a residential, commercial, industrial, or facilities operations setting.

    KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

    • Knowledgeable in the operation and functioning of Building Automation Systems. Experienced in brazing, silver solder and performing pipe alterations.
    • Working knowledge of pneumatic control systems and/or of electronic control systems (specifically Johnson and Siemens).
    • Working knowledge of balancing water and air.
    • Basic computer proficiency to keep computerized records and prepare reports.
    • Ability to follow and give oral and written instructions in English and ability to read, comprehend, and work from plans and blueprints.
    • Highly organized and ability to maintain proper productivity and work flow for multiple projects.
    • Must be a team player and able to maintain cooperative working relationships.
    • Demonstrated sensitivity to and respect for a diverse population.
    • Must be able to perform physical activities, such as, but not limited to, lifting equipment (up to 50 lbs. unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking. Must be able to safely use manual tools and power equipment common in the trade. Must be able to safely handle hazardous materials.

    Possess and maintain a current, valid Massachusetts driver's license and successfully complete a motor vehicle driving records check.
