    Olympic College is accepting applications to fill the role of Transitional Studies faculty to teach ABE/GED/HS+, and/or ELA in the Corrections Education program located at the Washington Correctional Center for Women (WCCW) and Mission Creek Correctional Center for Women (MCCCW).

    Corrections Faculty members are professional educators primarily responsible for providing a quality education for all Olympic College students. The faculty member's relationship to the student is one of teacher, mentor, and facilitator of learning. This position reports to the Associate Dean of Corrections Education at WCCW and MCCCW and will teach classes to incarcerated individuals housed at WCCW or MCCCW. Successful candidates will teach assigned classes, prepare teaching materials, assign grades, maintain records, and consult with students as required by the instructional division.

    This position is being advertised to fulfill a contract awarded to Olympic College (OC) by the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges(SBCTC) to operate a correctional education program at Washington Correctional Center for Women and Mission Creek Correctional Center for Women following an interagency agreement with the Department of Corrections. Olympic College and its employees working in a correctional education program must follow all Department of Corrections (DOC) Policies, IT, and other Security requirements, follow DOC Operational Memorandums, and comply with the Superintendent's directions.
    Essential Functions
  • Teach ABE, GED, HS+, and/or ELA (English Language Acquisition) classes utilizing both lecture and laboratory modes of instruction.
  • Participate with department faculty in curriculum revision, program management, and research related activities.
  • Interview and screen prospective students into the program.
  • Maintain competency assessment records and student progress accountability measures on all students enrolled in the assigned course sections.
  • Monitor and evaluate student performance to include daily documentation, tracking and assignment of grades.
  • Ensure that classroom/lab and equipment are in excellent condition and maintained.
  • Participate in meetings and trainings as required by the college and DOC.

  • Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Adult Education, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field.
  • Two years successful college teaching, particularly community college teaching or related training experience.
  • Intermediate-level technology competency, including Microsoft Office Applications and ability to embrace and learn new instructional technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience facilitating the success of students who represent a broad range of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Adult Education, Applied Linguistics, or a closely related field.
  • Student advising and student recruitment experience desired.
  • Curriculum development and evaluation.
  • Experience teaching in a correctional facility.

    Terms of Employment

    Please note that we are unable to sponsor visas for this position. Only candidates currently authorized to work in the United States will be considered.Faculty members must submit official, unopened transcripts to the Human Resources department within 30 days of employment.This is a temporary full-time faculty position contracted on an annual basis. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will be commensurate with educational background and experience. The salary will be prorated to reflect the actual contract days remaining in the academic year. The salary listed is a range based on per month for the quarter. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Association for Higher Education (AHE). Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the department. Evening and/or weekend classes, instruction at satellite Olympic College campuses, and off-campus assignments may be a part of the instructional load.Full-time faculty qualify for the following benefits.     This is a full-time temporary instructional assignment. All classes will be taught at the Department of Corrections facilities—WCCW or MCCW. Department of Correction positions are grant-funded, and funding is not guaranteed. The position will end upon loss of grant funding.
    All Olympic College staff employed at the Correction Education facilities must be cleared by an FBI background check before being hired into such positions and complete a 3-week corrections training program.
