Overview of Position:

The Substitute teacher's role is to help students have continuous learning experiences when their original classroom teacher is unavailable.

Substitute teachers are on call and responsible for monitoring and maintaining a safe learning environment in place of the classroom teacher.

Substitute teachers are responsible for following plans prepared by the classroom teacher.

The Christian school substitute teacher should be a college graduate from a 4 year accredited university.

The following expectations for Substitute teachers at Calvin Christian School.

In faithful living one is expected to:

  • Be committed to obeying Christ, your Redeemer.
  • Have a regular and active devotional life.
  • Practice love, joy, patience, kindness, selfcontrol, gentleness, faithfulness, and truthfulness.
  • Model biblical principles in making choices.
  • Be humble in spirit but bold in Christlike practice.
  • Be conscientious and responsible.

In teaching a class one is expected to:

  • engage students' attention.
- follow plans as prepared by original classroom teacher
- show interest and wonder in all learning.


Education

  • Bachelor's degree required.

Experience

  • Illinois Substitute Certificate (preferred).
  • Experience working in a school and with children.

Required Spiritual Qualifications

  • Must have and profess a personal and mature commitment to faith in Jesus Christ and affirm the school's statement of faith/basis of instruction and mission statement.
  • Must believe, without reservation, and actively support the school's Statement of Faith, Foundational Beliefs, and mission statement; possess a strong, clear Christian testimony; demonstrate a mature, godly spirit as a person of faith and prayer.

Supervisory Responsibility
None.


Required Hours
Monday through Friday 7:45am to 3:30pm, as needed


Physical Requirements

  • Sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Speak clearly so listeners can understand.
  • Understand the speech of another person.
  • Must be able to work in a demanding work environment.
  • The employee is regularly required to sit, walk, talk, read, see and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to type, handle, or feel and reach. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Travel Requirements
None.


Working Conditions
Work is performed in a typical classroom environment. Must be able to work in an open room setting with moderate noise levels.
