Summary:

Serves as a point of coordination for the Middlesex Hospital Ambulance. Serves as contact for external dispatch centers, satellite facilities, inpatient units, subcontracted ambulance services, and hospital supervisors. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to respond to requests to transport patients to and from various destinations.

Based on intake information assigns the appropriate level of care for ambulance transport from basic life support to critical care paramedic.

Must possess critical thinking skills and have the ability to adapt to the tempo of the hospital census. Has the ability to monitor multiple computer programs and or cameras while answering phones, dispatching ambulances, and entering data.

Is customer service oriented and has the ability to communicate in a professional and personal manner with verbal, written, and face to face interactions.


  • Has the ability to prioritize multiple requests, adjust workflow, and provide realtime feedback to internal and external customers.
  • Anticipates the transport of critical patients from satellites to the main hospital and to other hospitals by coordinating with satellite staff electronically and by phone to minimize delay.
  • Intakes and collates billing information such as PCS forms from inpatient units and satellites via fax and coordinates faxing them to the appropriate ambulance or billing company.
  • Must have excellent writing and spelling, typing and/or computer knowledge.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • High School diploma or equivalent and experience in a patient care environment.
  • Training in basic CPR/BLS and body mechanics.
  • Good organization and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Has personal qualities of accuracy, and dependability.
  • Ambulance dispatch experience with EMT and EMD certification preferred.
