USC Upward Bound is looking for Residential Advisors for their 4-week, summer, residential program.

USC Upward Bound's Summer program is an intense academic, social, and cultural experience for first generation college bound high school students.

The goal of our summer program is to prepare and challenge our students through intense academic preparation and personal development.

RAs will live in the dorms with students, monitor student behavior, serve as a tutor, and more importantly serve as a mentor.

We are looking for RAs committed to student success and equal access to higher education.


Responsibilities:

• Provide leadership and direction to approximately 20 high school students.
• Develop supportive relationships with students by mentoring/advising them on academic, personal, and college/career goals.
• Assist in maintaining a positive and safe environment that promotes appreciation of diverse cultures, traditions, lifestyles, and beliefs of the students.
• Take primary responsibility for students by monitoring personal progress.
• Conduct wake up calls and lights out rounds in the residence halls.
• Assist to supervise and lead all student activities (e.g., study sessions, labs, field trips, free time,PE, etc.).
• Enforce the program rules consistently and fairly.
• Take direction and communicate effectively with full time staff.

This list is not exhaustive, and responsibilities may include other tasks as assigned by program director.


Qualifications:

• Experience working with diverse populations.
• Ability to work split shifts, evenings & occasional weekends, as needed to support the program.
• Must be at least a sophomore undergraduate at a fouryear college
• Experience as a tutor preferred, not required
• Experience as a Residential Advisor preferred, not required
• First Aid and CPR certified preferred, not required

Dates of employment:

• RA Training: June 27th June 28th, 202
• Summer Program: June 30th through July 18th, 2024

Traditional Schedule includes nights and weekends.

$19.00 per hour
