Resource Assistant (JHHS) 30 hrs/wk Grade 3 Effective August 12, 2024


ASSIGNMENT: 10 Month


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position involves the performance of a variety of tasks in support of enhanced students academic achievement. This employee is expected to interact with students in an appropriate manner while maintaining discipline. There is considerable contact with staff and students. Resource Assistants monitor and assist students academically under the direction of a certified staff member and perform various tasks. This employee must exercise initiative and keep informed of procedures and requirements.

  • An employee in this position works within clearly established systems and procedures, must exhibit organizational skills and exercise independent judgment and confidentiality in the performance of duties. The Resource Assistant must exhibit initiative and embrace a collaborative team approach to accomplish the mission of the district.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Must have or obtain State and NCLB Approved Paraprofessional designation in accordance with the Illinois State Board of Education requirements.
  • Must have physical ability to lift/move supplies, materials and office equipment up to 40 lbs.
  • Must organize and prioritize workflow.
  • Must be proficient in the use of computers, office practices, procedures and office equipment.
  • Must project a positive image of the district to students, staff and parents as well as exhibit a positive employee attitude.
  • Must demonstrate appropriate interpersonal skills, and communicate clearly and respectfully with students, staff, parents, visitors and the general public.
  • Must have awareness of a variety of student needs including physical and social emotional needs

POSITION EXPECTATIONS:


  • 1.
Provides and maintains a study atmosphere conducive to the educational process by but not limited to:

- a. creating and updating test files
- b. proctoring make-up tests
- c. monitoring and assisting students with classroom assignments and test preparation
- d. coordinating the peer tutoring center, based on referrals and walk ins
- e. tutoring students when given instructions by teachers
- f. assisting students with computer use and programs
- g. monitoring disruptive students sent out of class by teachers
- h. monitoring and keeping records of students on academic referrals
- i. proctoring national, state, district, or school standardized tests
- j. distributing passes to students as needed
- k. supporting and supervising students during non-academic setting

  • 2.
  • Provides assistance to staff and students by but not limited to:
- a. maintaining records of attendance and/or student behavior for students assigned to the resource room

  • Participating in appropriate professional development activities in order to enhance job performance.
  • 4. Cultivating and developing inclusive and equitable working relationships with staff, students and community members.
