JOB FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:

  • Inspecting Compaction Equipment: Ensure that the compaction equipment used on the site is appropriate for the soil type and the project requirements. This may involve inspecting rollers, compactors, and other machinery to ensure they are in proper working condition.
  • Monitoring Compaction Process: The inspector monitors the compaction process closely to ensure that the soil is being compacted uniformly and to the required density. This involves observing the compaction equipment in action and taking measurements to verify compaction levels.
  • Performing Field Tests: Soil compaction inspectors often conduct field tests such as the Proctor compaction test or the sand cone test to measure the density of the compacted soil. They may also use nuclear density gauges or other specialized equipment for this purpose.
  • Ensuring Compliance: Soil compaction inspectors ensure that the compaction work meets the standards and specifications set forth by regulatory agencies, engineering firms, and project plans. May need to halt work or issue corrective actions if compaction levels are found to be inadequate.

Work Environment:

When hired as a field technician at AEIS you will work on active construction sites and perhaps in a soils/concrete testing laboratory.

You will get dirty and be exposed to outside weather conditions. We will supply the equipment you need and provide training.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires long term standing and perhaps repetitive motions.

You must have the ability to use your hands to handle, finger or feel; reach, climb or balance; crouch, stoop, crawl, kneel and sit.

You must have the ability to see and smell; including close, distance and peripheral vision, depth vision and ability to focus.

You may be required to drive hundreds of miles per day.

Lifting You will regularly lift/move/shake up to 40 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 60-80 pounds; and occasionally move more than 100 pounds [such as a loaded wheelbarrow of concrete samples].


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of a high school diploma or GED equivalent required. BSCE graduates with EIT's will be considered.
  • 110 years of experience.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate in English.
Ability to read maps, follow directions, and interpret engineering and construction plans.

  • Must have personal vehicle to commute to work.


  • Technician Certification [minimum]

  • We need ICC SOILS Certified Inspectors or NICET Level 2 or ACI 1 and ACI CCSI with Soils experience. Multiple positions available.

Notes:
Some weekend and overtime work may be required with this position.
