Manufacturing and Harness Technician


An organization within Northrop Grumman's Payload and Ground Systems (PGS) division, Mission Enabling Products is a leading designer, producer, and supplier of spacecraft components that power and enable satellites of all classes.

Products include spacecraft panels, bus structures, precision optical structures, deployable structural systems and mechanisms, solar arrays, and antenna reflectors. Our products are on virtually every U. S. satellite built in the last 20 years.

Our facility in Goleta, CA is seeking a Manufacturing Harness Technician specializing in harnessing and related electrical assembly and test, with aerospace industry experience working on small, medium and/or large government and commercial programs.


  • A cable harness technician manufactures cable / harness products. Reads and interprets Work Instructions, schematics, wirelists, and drawings. Ensures quality of the hardware is maintained and company procedures are followed. Ensures work is done with completeness, accuracy, adherence to operation sheets, ISO procedures, schedules, and assign tasks. Provides regular communication to shop leads and Work Center management on status and technical issues.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Will be reviewing, interpreting, maintaining, and completing paperwork and electronic data associated with hardware assemblies to maintain data and material traceability.
  • Will be working with electrical harness assemblies, including interpreting schematics and building compliant electrical assemblies as well as conducting electrical tests such as continuity and insulation resistance.
  • Will be routing wiring harnesses on flight hardware.
  • Will follow procedure and direction from management as well as work from drawings or sketches, and collaborate with engineers to develop or proof new processes.
  • Will work with soldering, wire stripping, contact crimping, contact insertion and removal, harness routing and strain relief.
  • Working level understanding of force, torque, and precision hand tools.
  • Work to follow and determine, optimum order of assembly for complex harnesses, mechanical structures, and devices.

Basic Qualifications for level 1:


  • High school diploma or GED 0 years of additional education and/or related experience
  • Demonstrated Mechanical Ability
  • US Citizen able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
  • Ability to read, write and work to instructions written in English.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to be on feet for up to various hours each day
  • Ability to work flexible hours, overtime, and different shifts based on demanding manufacturing schedules

Basic Qualifications for level 2:


  • High school diploma or GED 2 years of additional education and/or related experience
  • Demonstrated Mechanical Ability
  • US Citizen able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
  • Ability to read, write and work to instructions written in English.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to be on feet for up to various hours each day
  • Ability to work flexible hours, overtime, and different shifts based on demanding manufacturing schedules

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Familiarity with solar cell technology and CIC wiring
  • Proficient use of basic shop arithmetic
  • Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to read and follow directions on engineering drawings and Schematics, preferred.
  • Initiative, selfstarter, adaptable, and high motivation for excellence
