Peer Addiction Recovery Coach


Turning Point Recovery Coaches will provide non-clinical services intended to aid individuals in establishing and maintaining individual recovery from substance use disorder (SUD).

The recovery coach promotes a recovery-based approach to participant care with an emphasis on respect, self-direction, and empowerment by providing peer support, personal assistance, education on community resources, and other supportive services for individuals with a substance abuse disorder.

Peer Addiction Recovery Coach overview


Recovery Coaching is a professional peer support role credentialed through graduation from Recovery Vermont's Recovery Coaching Academy and completion of all requirements for IC&RC certification.


Some overarching job responsibilities include:

  • Provide direct recovery support services, ie. recovery coaching, recovery group facilitation, and outreach to the community.
  • Contribute to a welcoming atmosphere at Turning Point, helping keep the environment safe, comfortable and clean for guests.
  • Display a warm and welcoming demeanor toward all guests arriving at the Center; providing recovery support to visitors focused on recovery principles, strengthbased and evidencebased practices learned through the variety of training opportunities provided in this position.
  • Assisting individuals to identify and develop natural community supports to foster independence and community integration.
  • Promote the array of Turning Point programs and offerings as well as resources available through local community partners.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with local treatment teams and providers serving Vermont, to assist clients with treatment needs.
  • Model and exemplify recovery principles to show by example that recovery is possible and attainable, and utilize personal and professional experience to promote wellness and recovery.
  • Abide by HIPAA, 42 CFR Part II, and any additional regulations set forth by Turning Point and BMH.
  • Complete all necessary documentation, attend supervision, requested trainings, and participate in Turning Point events.

Desired Skills and Experience:


  • A selfidentified person in recovery from a substance use disorder or other valuable lived experience who meets a minimum of 2 years of uninterrupted recovery.
  • Experience with, or educational background of, recovery concepts and practices of recovery that honor multiple pathways to recovery.
  • Organized, selfmotivated, creative, and committed to working in a diverse environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and comfortable working with all levels of professionals.
  • Experience/comfortability with doing both formal and informal presentations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook, as well as experience working with various data platforms.
  • Valid Driver's License, reliable transportation, and current insurance coverage.
  • Preferred Recovery Center experience/affiliation.
  • Trained Recovery Coach (training will be provided if not certified for committed applicants).
  • Understanding of the addiction process, available treatment programs, healthcare options, social service systems and medical systems.
  • Preferred Advanced motivational interviewing skills (will train if needed).
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in the hospital and community setting.

Pay:
$20.00 per hour


Expected hours:
No more than 40 per week
