    Description

    About the Role

    As the Director of Tax, in this position, you will have the exciting opportunity to establish a function, collaborate across different areas of the business, and work closely with teams such as finance, accounting, payroll, legal, product, and engineering. You will immerse yourself within these teams to develop a deep understanding of our products and become the go-to expert on all tax matters, covering areas such as sales tax, federal tax, state tax, and international tax. You will play a crucial role in expanding our tax team and have the chance to evolve professionally while making a significant impact on a rapidly growing Company. Reporting to the VP Corporate Controller, you will have regular interactions with the Chief Financial Officer and present to the Audit Committee.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead and oversee the completion of annual federal and state tax returns along with foreign filings
    • Manage the quarterly tax provision in accordance with GAAP
    • Take charge of all sales tax returns and establish a scalable process
    • Assist with various filings including 1099 and 3921
    • Work with the international team on transfer pricing agreements for foreign subsidiaries
    • Stay updated on legislative changes affecting the Company and address them proactively
    • Handle all tax-related audits
    • Develop and manage robust internal controls over accounting and reporting for significant taxes
    • Offer proactive advice on tax implications for business initiatives, M&A activities, and strategic decisions
    • Collaborate closely with Finance, Legal, and other cross-functional teams to ensure tax aspects are considered in business decisions
    • Serve as a primary contact for external tax advisors and regulatory bodies
    • Provide guidance on domestic and international tax matters across the organization
    • Supervise special projects as needed
    • Devise a clear tax strategy

    • Hold a CPA certification with 10 to 15+ years of accounting experience, including time at a public accounting firm and a publicly traded technology company
    • Proven experience in corporate income tax and indirect tax

    Bonus points if you have

    • Experience with Avalara
    • Both domestic and international exposure
    • Previous experience with a Marketplace company
    • Experience working with a Public company

    The anticipated salary range for candidates residing in San Francisco / Bay Area, New York City, or Seattle metros is currently $238,500 - $292,000. Actual salary offers will vary based on factors such as job level, qualifications, skills, and competencies.

    For candidates in other US locations, the expected salary range for this role is $248,000. Final salary decisions will depend on various factors like job level, qualifications, skills, and competencies.
