    Responsibilities:

    The Director, Indirect Tax will be responsible for leading and managing Patterns Indirect Tax Function, including

    • analysis, planning, forecasting, review and filing of all US sales & use tax (SUT), Canadian GST/HST/VAT, and US and Canadian property tax (PT) returns
    • managing indirect tax risks and audits
    • Engaging Pattern business leaders and providing input on the indirect tax implications of business strategies and transactions
    • Mentoring and developing the indirect tax team.

    Key Responsibilites

    • Key point of contact for Pattern business indirect tax support
      • Indirect tax implications during prospective project development
      • Indirect tax implications and compliance during project construction
      • Indirect tax implications and evolving issues for Patterns operating projects
      • Monitor and provide support for emerging indirect tax changes and trends
    • Annual forecasting and budgeting of indirect tax liabilities
    • Mentor and develop the indirect tax team
    • Lead efforts to automate and streamline indirect tax compliance and reporting processes
    • Final review and approval of indirect tax compliance filings
    • Manage indirect tax risks - audits and notices from tax authorities
    • Oversee property tax assessments and manage strategies to properly minimize including use of long term in lieu of agreements
    Qualifications:

    Educational Requirements

    • Bachelors Degree in Accounting/Economics/Business or similar
    • CPA is a plus
    • 12+ years of relevant experience in the corporate and/or public accounting firm working in Indirect Tax area

    Additional Requirements

    • Solid understanding of U.S. sales/use tax laws
    • Solid understanding of Canadian value added tax laws
    • Solid understanding of U.S. property tax laws
    • Experience managing and developing other individuals
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
    • Detail-oriented with strong quantitative and analytical skills
    • Above average organizational skills
    • Preferred San Francisco hybrid work location

    Technical Skills

    • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Teams and Outlook)
    • Experience with indirect tax compliance software
    • Experience with indirect tax research software

    The expected starting pay range for this role is $137,000 - $186,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Patterns compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels. We also provide a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical, dental, vision, short and long-term disability, life insurance, voluntary benefits, family care benefits, employee assistance program, paid time off and bonding leave, paid holidays, 401(k)/RRSP retirement savings plan with employer contribution, and employee referral bonuses.
