- This position will be based out of Birmingham, AL.
- This position will require a mix of both field and office work.
- Some office work can be performed remotely (telework/work from home).
- B. S. Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required.
- B.S. or higher in Civil Engineering is strongly preferred.
- A Professional Engineers (PE) license in the state of Alabama and Mississippi is required or the ability to obtain such license.
- Minimum 3 years' experience in industrial and/or commercial structural engineering is required.
- Experience in structural and concrete design is required.
- Experience with seismic and wind analysis is preferred.
- Prior foundation design experience is a plus.
- Working knowledge of AISC, ASCE, ACI codes
- Proficient with design software (STAAD Pro, RAM Elements, etc.)
- Knowledge of the use of ANSYS
- Experience with analyzing steel connections.
- Design experience in transmission structures is a plus, but not required.
- Computer skills to be proficient with standard office software applications.
- Interpersonal skills sufficient to build working relationships with peers, internal customers, and the general public.
- Time management skills sufficient to manage multiple projects with various priorities and competing deadlines.
- Written and verbal communication skills sufficient to satisfactorily complete project documentation and to function effectively in a team environment.
- Provide quality designs for Transmission Substation and Line projects, including substation structures, substation, and transmission line foundations to meet schedule and budget requirements.
- Provide work direction and oversight for designers and drafters.
- Serve as the civil structural representative on solution teams and prepare preliminary designs as required to support the process.
- Support Generations effort on specialized structural projects.
- Serve as a company representative on industry committees.
- Serve as a damage assessment team member after major storms after receiving the company provided training. Overnight travel within the Southern Company system is required.
- Manage and work with structural designers and detailers to provide fabrication quality steel and concrete drawings.

WORK LOCATION
The Structural Engineer in the Transmission Civil Design organization will be responsible for designing and analyzing new or existing substation structures and foundations. The Structural Engineer will also design transmission line foundations and provide design assistance to transmission line structures. The position will require field visits and may involve occasional overnight travel.
