Post Doctoral Fellow, Physics and Astronomy - New Castle, United States - University of Delaware
Description
This project explores several paths in nanomagnonics for bio-inspired computation by determining the magnon properties in lithographically defined arrays of interacting nanomagnets, where information is passed between nanomagnetic 'neurons' via magnon-magnon coupling acting as 'synapses'.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will fabricate nanomagnetic networks by electron-beam lithography, electron-beam evaporation, and lift-off and study the systems by optical, electrical, and microwave methods.
Furthermore, the Postdoctoral Fellow will support the experimental investigations by micromagnetic modeling.Major Responsibilities
Primary duties are to carry out original research in the field of nano-magnonics using microwave spectroscopy, magnetotransport and optical techniques, primarily by Brillouin light scattering spectroscopy and magneto-optical Kerr effect measurements.
This also includes sample fabrication using photo- and electron lithography and thin film deposition at the University of Delaware Nanofabrication Facility.
The Postdoc will also be responsible for the set up/modification of scientific instruments, such as a Brillouin light spectrometer. Experimental results will be modeled using micromagnetics. Furthermore, the Postdoctoral Fellow is expected to assist in supervising undergraduate and graduate students.Qualifications
PhD in Physics, Materials Science, or related fields.
