Residency Training:

VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.)
Approved residencies are:
(1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences

Duties:
The incumbent should be able to diagnose and treat all of the common orthopedic surgical conditions, including surgical and non-surgical treatment of diseases and injuries to the musculoskeletal system.
The incumbent will be expected to participate in call schedule after hours, and will need to possess the ability to respond promptly in emergent situations.
The incumbent is responsible for seeing patients in consultation in both inpatient and outpatient settings.The incumbent provides care of the Veterans' medical needs by performing examination, surgical consultation, and developing treatment and follow-up plans.
The incumbent physician will provide ongoing patient and family education throughout the course of treatment.The incumbent must adhere to policies and procedures regarding the completion of all required orders, operation/procedure notes/reports, discharge summaries, progress notes, clinical reminders, all other required medical documentation, and performance measures in a timely fashion; will ensure the most effective delivery of care, while meeting and exceeding compliance, Joint Commission and VA Central Office performance measure standards; will mentor, train and provide supervision for residents and mid-levels in all aspects of their duties as required; and performs other directly related duties as required.
Supervisory Controls:
Operates under the general supervision of the Chief Specialty Care Service Line. Performs work independently with minimal supervision. Operates clinic independently and develops their own clinic profile.
Customer Service:
Meets the needs of customers while supporting VA missions.
Consistently communicates and treats customers (Veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.Age Developmental & Cultural Needs of Patients:
Age specific - The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit.
The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the adult and geriatric life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirement relative to the age-specific needs, and to provide the care as needed as described in policies and procedures.
