Duties
The VA Midwest Health Care Network advocates for a Whole Health System of care in each of the Medical Centers.

As an employee operating in a Whole Health System of care, you will operate in a model with three core elements, seeking to create a personalized health plan for each Veteran.

This aligns with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Mission Statement to Honor America's Veterans by providing exceptional health care that improves their health and well-being.
Duties:The incumbent should be able to diagnose and treat all of the common orthopedic surgical conditions, including surgical and non-surgical treatment of diseases and injuries to the musculoskeletal system. The incumbent will be expected to participate in call schedule after hours, and will need to possess the ability to respond promptly in emergent situations. The incumbent is responsible for seeing patients in consultation in both inpatient and outpatient settings. The incumbent provides care of the Veterans' medical needs by performing examination, surgical consultation, and developing treatment and follow-up plans. The incumbent physician will provide ongoing patient and family education throughout the course of treatment. The incumbent must adhere to policies and procedures regarding the completion of all required orders, operation/procedure notes/reports, discharge summaries, progress notes, clinical reminders, all other required medical documentation, and performance measures in a timely fashion; will ensure the most effective delivery of care, while meeting and exceeding compliance, Joint Commission and VA Central Office performance measure standards; will mentor, train and provide supervision for residents and mid-levels in all aspects of their duties as required; and performs other directly related duties as required.
Supervisory Controls:Operates under the general supervision of the Chief Specialty Care Service Line. Performs work independently with minimal supervision. Operates clinic independently and develops their own clinic profile.
Customer Service:Meets the needs of customers while supporting VA missions. Consistently communicates and treats customers (Veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.
Age Developmental & Cultural Needs of Patients:Age specific - The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the adult and geriatric life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirement relative to the age-specific needs, and to provide the care as needed as described in policies and procedures.

Work Schedule: 7:00am - 3:00pm
Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Approved
Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of annual paid time offer per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program.
You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.
Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
