    Description

    Nurse Practitioner (NP) will be fully qualified and certified to function in both a clinical and administrative role and in accordance with the guidelines and policies of the Central Virginia VA Health Care System.

    This individual is delegated the authority and responsibility to assume clinical, consultative, educational, research, and administrative duties and assignments related to the care of surgical patients for any of the subspecialty surgical sections to include; General Surgery, Vascular, Thoracic, Urology, Orthopedics, Plastics Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), Interventional Radiology, Podiatry, Ophthalmology, and Anesthesia.


    Major Duties include but not limited to:
    Providing orthopedic services in the Emergency department, including reduction of fractures and dislocations, suturing complex lacerations, application of splints/casts
    Obtaining medical histories & providing physical examination
    Ordering diagnostic studies such as laboratory tests, x-ray, and electrocardiograms.
    Request specialty care through consultation.
    Admitting and discharging patients in consultation with, and on behalf of the collaborating physician

    Developing a treatment plan, providing, and coordinating medical care for assigned patients in any care setting, including establishing diagnosis, and providing follow-up care.

    Documentation in the medical record as required by medical center policies and procedures.
    Evaluating outpatients to determine the needs for further health care.
    Obtaining and documenting informed consents for treatments and procedures

    Preferred Experience:
    Possess one (1) to three (3) years of successful clinical experience in procedural or critical care.
    Possess Surgical Specialty experience, orthopedics preferred but not required.
