- Formulates, coordinates and implements procedures for obtaining medical and dental services for clients of the Rockingham County Schools Early Learning Head Start program, consistent with Head Start Performance Standards; formulates, coordinates and implements delivery of associated physical and health services in accordance with individual plans for clients, consistent with Head Start Performance Standards.
- Oversees and participates in health screening of all client children at the start of each school year; ensures that all client children have current immunizations; maintains health and medical records of client children; monitors daily health checks of client children and makes appropriate referrals for professional services; makes or assists parents in making necessary medical appointments, and arranges transportation, as necessary; forwards medical and dental information concerning client children to public schools, as appropriate.
- Contacts and coordinates availability of health services agencies to ensure proper medical and dental services are provided to program clients; obtains necessary authorizations from parents to provide health care services to client children; prepares reports and copies of medical exam reports and records for parents.
- Organizes a Health Advisory Committee to plan and evaluate the health services program; prepares and maintains associated records and reports.
- Assists Head Start Director in planning and development of training sessions for staff and client parents in health and participates in presentation of training sessions.
- Organizes or oversees field trips and classroom visits by professionals to expose client children to proper health and hygiene habits.
- Monitors lesson plans in areas of health, safety and nutrition.
- Performs site inspections of facilities, playgrounds and classrooms including visual inspection of doors and equipment in classrooms, hallways, and playground equipment.
- Coordinates emergency response programs between the Head Start Program and Rockingham County Schools
- Schedules and maintains fire evacuation, tornado evacuation, and other evacuation records as required by the Rockingham County Schools and NC Child Care regulations.
- Collaborates with the Rockingham County Schools on policy and procedure development for Head Start.
- Chairs the Head Start Safety Committee in collaboration with the RCS Executive Director of Behavioral, Crisis Intervention, and Student Safety, and make recommendations as needed for safe and orderly facilities, classrooms and playgrounds.
- Tracks all accident reports involving Head Start staff and children and make reports at the Head Start Safety Committee and as a member to the Rockingham County Schools Crisis/Safety Team.
- Prepares and maintains Head Start program safety and emergency response plans and coordinate review/revise as appropriate in collaboration with Rockingham County schools procedures.
- Coordinates emergency evacuation record keeping system and reporting of information to emergency service providers in the event of an emergency response episode.
- Coordinates employee training for all OSHA required areas.
- Performs or coordinates yearly training in emergency response for all Head Start employees.
- Performs yearly safety audit in consultation with emergency service providers.
- Print monthly menus and send to classrooms

- Provide Documentation to cafeteria managers and CO nutrition department on food, allergies, milk substitutes
- Assist families with Nutrition Opt out forms and review RCS Head Start procedure with them
- Make sure nutrition opt out form is in student files
- Communicate with cafeteria managers as needed
- Monitor Temperature Check (Water/Food)
- Attends and participates in Policy Council meetings, as necessary; attends staff meetings and training sessions.
- Attends seminars, conferences, workshops, classes, lectures, etc., as appropriate to enhance and maintain knowledge of developments and trends in the field of health.
- May assume duties as Teacher, Teacher Assistant and Food Carrier as deemed necessary by Director.

Position Summary
Under general supervision, performs specialized administrative and educational work associated with coordinating health, safety and nutritional programs for underprivileged children, and monitoring the effectiveness of such plans in the Rockingham County Schools Early Learning Head Start program.
Work involves working directly with underprivileged children, their parents, medical professionals, and consultants to ensure maximum child health, development, safety and nutrition.
Employee is responsible for coordinating the delivery of health services to include health screenings and medical examinations and treatments.Employee is also responsible for coordinating the department's safety programs including supervision of general facilities; playgrounds and classroom conditions; site based emergency response programs, and coordination of safety educational programs.
Employee must exercise independent judgment and initiative in developing, implementing, and monitoring individual plans to ensure that assessed needs of client children are being addressed.
Employee must also exercise tact and courtesy in frequent dealings with parents, teachers, therapists and representatives of other agencies involved with serving underprivileged children.

ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Public Health or a related field. Current Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse or other medical certification.
3 to 5 years of experience in teaching preschool and/or preadolescent children; job related training or skills in school safety programs, preferably including some training and experience in the administration of medical services programs for preschool children or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate, First Aid Certification; CPR and First Aid Trainer Certification; EPR Trained; Playground Safety Trainer Certification; North Carolina Driver License Class C-Endorsement P & S.
